FRIDAY – 1. Continue AR Log and Final Draft. ** Cut-off date for Trimester 1 Progress Reports **.

MONDAY – WEDNESDAY: 1. Use the Outline for the Outsiders Character Analysis Essay and re-write it into your Composition Book, this will be your Rough Draft. Remember to SKIP LINES. Also, feel free to revise as you feel necessary, you can add to or take away from the outline as your transfer it into your Composition Book. Remember, this is 5 well-developed paragraphs, at least 7 sentences per paragraph. Lastly, be sure to include at least three text quotes in your essay to support your opinion, with a pg. number reference. This Rough Draft is DUE on THURSDAY, 12/22!!!

TUESDAY – Study for the “Flowers for Algernon” test on WEDNESDAY. Use all the handouts in your notebook: (character notes, vocab., reading questions) to study, or ask to check-out a book.

********** Over the break, you should be starting your second AR Book of the trimester. Make sure you get one from the library before Thursday. No formal AR Log, but you do need to read at least 2 hours per week. ******

MONDAY – FRIDAY: 1. Continue working on the Outline for The Outsiders Character Analysis Essay. We will have class time on Monday, Thursday, and Friday, if you do not finish in class, you’ll need to finish at home for homework, it’s DUE on MONDAY, 12/19.

TUESDAY – THURSDAY – 1. Choose The Outsiders character that you want to write about, and if you haven’t already, do a CIRCLE CHART in your Composition Book.

FRIDAY – Writer’s Workshop in class, Circle Chart DUE.

* Also, now that we have started “Flowers for Algernon,” you need to keep up on the Reader Response Questions and Vocabulary. If you don’t have time in class, this becomes homework.

* Long-term assignment: Book Review or Mini-Project #1 is due Friday, 12/16.

EXTRA CREDIT AR LOG OVER Thanksgiving Break

I just assigned an extra credit reading log over the break. It is optional. Students should read for three hours, write a short summary, and get a parent signature to be eligible for the 30 pts. of extra credit. The AR log is on a yellow handout, and it must be filled out properly and completely to receive extra credit.

HOMEWORK 11/14 – 11/18 AND over Thanksgiving Break

** There is no official HOMEWORK this week. We are taking a variety of trimester baseline assessments in class this week, as well as starting our next Writer’s Workshop. Students will be writing a Character Analysis essay based on the character of their choice from The Outsiders. We will be doing all the pre-writing and drafting in class. The final draft will be typed at home. This will take approximately 4 weeks. Over the break, students should be reading their first AR book for Trimester 2. I will not assign a reading log, but I do expect them to be reading about 3 hours total over the break. We will get books in the library this week unless they already have one at home.
